Squamish Farmers Institute Fall Fair Prize List of the First Annual Exhibition
This pamphlet lists prizes from the inaugural Fall Fair hosted by the Squamish Farmers Institute (SFI).
Fred Thorne, the great-grandfather of Terry Thorne, was a member of the SFI. Fred Thorne was a manager of the Squamish Valley Hops Company and a prominent agriculturalist in the area.
The SFI, now the BFI, was founded in 1925 to educate people about agriculture and host annual exhibits. The SFI is now overseen by the Brackendale Farmers Institute (BFI). The Brackendale Farmers Institute Park is the site of the contemporary Fall Fair. According to the BFI, the goals of the Institute are: to improve conditions of rural life so that settlement may be permanent & prosperous; to promote the theory & practice of agriculture; to arrange, on behalf of its members, the distribution or sale of commodities, supplies or products; to act generally on behalf of its members in all matters incidental to agricultural pursuits and rural development; and to promote home economics, public health, child welfare, education and better schools.
